TC 133 - Thanks for Listening!

It has been a pleasure and a privilege to bring you this little audio thing for the past four years. I've decided to finally end the wonderful ride to pursue other interests.

Here then is the final 2 minute episode of Japan's First   .

The Tokyo Calling website will be dismantled in early March 2009.

Very sorry to hear that you've hung up the microphone, Scott. Best wishes to you and yours from North Dakota, and I'll leave the feed up in iTunes should you ever choose to return.

Scott, Oh No. I love your podcasts. Please continue possibly with something else. I have been a listener from the beginning. You will surely be missed.

So long, Tokyo Calling, and thanks for all the insights! I will miss the 1st hand account of life for an american in Japan.

Scott, this project will be sorely missed for sure. I'm sure I speak for many of your listeners in saying that this project of yours has been both an inspiration and a refuge. Thanks again for all of your work on this and to the entertainment and education you have brought to all of us.

P.S. Might I suggest you archive some material for posterity? I would offer to help on this if you need assistance.

Christopher and Aaron have put my thoughts into words before I could even get the chance to, and I completely agree. You will be missed and we look forward to any future projects you wish to share with us. Long live the king!

Hey Scott! Just wanted to say thank you for this great show and I wish you the best of luck!

Seems rather drastic. I hope you change your mind...

Sad to see you go but thank you for sharing your experience over months. Thanks for podcasting.

Posted by: Rico at February 19, 2009 04:43 AM

To echo the twitter sentiments: the King is dead, long live the King!

I have to admit that I'm quite bummed out to hear things closing down (and so abruptly and anti-climatically as well!). I have greatly enjoyed the virtual visits to Japan I've experienced through your efforts. This is the last podcast I listen to that genuinely would make me excited to see a new episode show up! All of the other "personal" shows I've listened to have all fallen away, and TC will now, sadly, join them. (They were all from Japan as well, oddly enough.)

I suppose I'll have to tune in to MSS to get another earful of those golden pipes :) Thanks for all your work with TC, TCTV, and everything else. Best of luck in all your future endeavors!

From King of Podcasting to King of Notcasting in one episode?

Maybe a Second Life is too much for one person.

Anyhow, thank you for the run and all of the unique and intelligent recordings. Not as if you owe us squat!

Scott, I'm really going to miss your podcast. Good luck and take care.

I can understand the need to stop podcasting... But why dismantle the website?

Thanks for sharing a piece of yourself with us Scott. Sorry you have to go.

It's been an absolute pleasure getting to know you over the past few years Mr Lockman.
I sincerely hope the time spent on this podcast has been as productive for you as it's been interesting for me.

I wish you all the best with your future projects and hopefully I'll see you round!

What? The end?
I mean, you probably have your reasons, but I didn't see this coming at all. Havn't downloaded this episode yet, but will do so when I get home.
I love this podcast and am allways looking forward to the next episode.
I guess all good things must come to an end at some point...

Anyway, thank you for all your work you put in your podcast. It was a joy to listen.
And maybe we'll see a comback sometime?

Good luck in your future endevours!

greets from a Belgian listener!

Are you serious? You are one of the reasons why I decided to take a permanent job transfer to move over here. I thought, hey this guy can do it...I can too.

Best wishes to you and your family! Thanks for letting me listen.

I hate to see you go. I have looked forward to, and enjoyed your podcasts. I am bummed out because it looks like my favorite podcasts from Japan are gone now. Josh is no longer in Japan, and Mr. JP has folded up JapanTalk. With you gone about all that's left is Planet Japan. Anyway, thanks for all the effort. Best of luck to the daughters.

Good luck to you, Scott, with whatever you do. See you in this life or the next.

wow, this podcast series meant so much to me. It really made my nightshift work bearable i really foot know what i'm going to do without it now. Thank you so much for keeping it up this long! I really appreciated it. Good luck with life!

Scott.. heard this episode last night. Sad to hear you close shop on TC.. but Im sure I will hear you on some other project somewhere soon. I've enjoyed listening for many years, accompanying your thoughts and your life. I will continue to do so through other channels. I wonder if you havent put your podcasts somewhere like archive.org where future generations of listeners might discover it and start listening from number 1?

Posted by: bicyclemark at February 20, 2009 07:44 PM

Oh no! I just listened to your last (and last...?) podcast. What a shame! Ever since meeting you at the Pause Talk last year I've been a faithful listener and I've really enjoyed all the twists and turns the podcast has taken over the year. I've been particularly liking the more free-form stuff of the last several shows.

It's really a shame that I won't be hearing your voice out of my iPod anymore…

Thanks again for all the great shows.

Posted by: Josh at February 21, 2009 09:29 AM

Sad to see the end of TC after listening for so long. I still have quite a lot of the older shows to listen to so for me at least it's not quite over yet. Hopefully by the time I've finished listening to them all there'll be some new shows :). It's been great to hear your thoughts, experiences and the brilliant backing track that is Japan.

Good luck for the future!

The news really hit me. I hope you'll change your mind one day. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I really enjoyed your podcast a lot.
Best wishes from Sweden

Hi Scott,

Thanks for this great podcast. I've enjoyed it immensely. But I'm really disappointed that you decided to call it a day.

I think you are a media guy at heart so I hope you're not putting down the mic permanently.
Surely this project is now too big to fail.

Take care, all the best.

Still hoping you'll reconsider.

Mark.

Scott,

I'm sad to hear you will no longer be podcasting. TC was a brilliant series and I'm glad I found it long ago. There's no way I'm unsubscribing. . . just in case. :)

So here's to the doors closing on TC, and to new ones being opened up. Take care.

Wishing you all the best, Scott!

Scott,

I am genuinely saddened to hear that Tokyo Calling shall be no more. I have greatly enjoyed the ride and must thank you for all the time, effort, creativity and passion you have put into one of my favourite podcasts.

Personally, my favourite episodes were those in which we got to hear a mixture of Tokyo soundscapes or sound collages and your own commentary. As someone with a love of Japanese culture but who has never been there these were the closest I could get to experiencing Japan first hand. They were truly immersive media.

I shall miss your dulcet tones, and I shall miss the wonderfully joyous interruptions of your daughters. They are a great credit to you and to Mrs Tokyo Calling (who must have the patience of a saint to put up with all your multimedia shenanigans).

It is a real shame to see you go, but you have my very best wishes.

Posted by: Scott Pack at February 24, 2009 12:35 AM

:(

this is a very bad news...
2009 semed to be very promising for TC as per some anouncements made earlier... and now THIS.

I understand that you probably wish to keep your second life persona (MSS) as the "flag ship" for your audio projects, but on the other hand, TC became an icon for global podcasting in my opinion...

Content presented here became huge source of inspiration to many...

I respect your decision and I undesand that it was not just a whim...
People "invested" in your stories and ideas will feel empty for some time now...
I will be one of them...
There is no place like Tokyo. Tokyo Calling...

I will keep the subscription active as many others (just in case)

All the best Scott!!!!

Just started listening this past year during our vacation in Japan but have listened faithfully since. Best of luck to you and your family.

When in doubt .... chill.

T.C. was clearly a labor of love for you. Don't know how you found the time for it between teaching gigs and 3 young kids. Perhaps you've decided to funnel the energy expended on the podcast/website into family. If that's the case then I think you made a wise decision. But we'll miss hearing your voice. All the best.

Scott, I have been a huge fan for a long time, and was always excited to listen to a new episode, I have tried to keep up with you via podcast, the website, and Twitter, and I hope to still keep up with you on Twitter, and via whatever thing you may do in the future.

TC will be missed, but I wish you the best of luck, as Aaron said. The King is Dead, Long live the King.

well I am glad I found some of my old files I thought I'd never see again (computer bit my bytes). And thankfully a few of the ones I located had the email addresses (couldn't recall) and I had used at one time for signing up for services. So today... first stop was to some 2007 accounts & to find "something something" Scott in Tokyo (along with others). Watched a couple of the old Flashmeetings to make a list of those to try and reconnect to. If nothing else, glad to be synchronically on time. If you get a chance drop an email (If I find yours I may beat you to it). Nice to hear you, even if it was your last Tokyo Calling.

Will miss Tokyo Calling and all the great things you brought our way. Best of luck to you and your family. Hope to hear from you again soon.

Noooo, I just found this sweet podcast, and now your shutting down. I check out the last episode, and then this one. I was shocked that it was already over when I just began listening. You had a nice show, and hope you achieve greatness in your future endeavors.

Posted by: Samuel Chaboya at February 28, 2009 05:38 PM

I guess it's over--now that the site has been dismantled. This is actually sad for me. Tokyo Calling was the first podcast I started listening to when iTunes began to offer podcast--however long ago that was. I remember it was kind of ironic because I saw it as a featured podcast, and a few episodes later, you talked about how it was featured and everything.

This podcast just felt different from everything else I listened to, and I will miss it.

Hi Scott,

Sorry to hear the podcast has come to an end. I've been listening since the very beginning.

Please keep my email address and let me know of any future projects you might have.

Best of luck with everything.

Hi Scott,

I am very sorry to hear that this was your last post. I came across this podcast some years ago and have always downloaded the episodes. The most enjoyable casts was when you were walking through japan and you hear all the traffic and people walking by. A+

I will miss you, take care

Any fans of Tokyo Calling have a stash of the old episodes? It seems like Scott won't be doing any more with the site but it would be nice to pull together an archive or something.

Is it just me or is this like losing an old friend?

Posted by: Scott Pack at March 2, 2009 03:09 AM

Hey, I just discovered this a couple of months ago or so, and though it's been short(for me), it has certainly been excelent. Thanks for the goodness. And I completly share the view that chess is a very good game.

Well wishes to You and Yours friend

you have offered your SELF to your listeners so freely over these years and i appreciate all the effort it took on your end.

the podcast has gone through so many changes along the way ... as you have too.

i wish you and your family all the best and thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving us so many hours of your lovely words and thoughts.

i too feel that i am losing an old friend.
