Tokyo Calling Episode 096

This 44 minute episode begins with some reminiscences on the occasion of our daughter's eighth birthday. It continues with thanks to Robert Sanzalone of pacificIT and BlogNation Japan for the interview he recorded with me on TalkShoe last Saturday.
That's followed by some news from Japan. Topics include the new Prime Minister, the recently introduced early earthquake alert system, and some controversial sumo stories:
Thanks for listening

Nice episode Scott. You commented how after your first child, your free time instantly evaporates. So true, but of course it's a worthwhile trade off. I have two sons around same age as your first two daughters - I don't watch TV and barely have time to read the newspaper after the baths, kids homework, dishwashing, etc. are done for the day. With all the time you spend on this podcasting hobby, either you are fortunate to work less than a full 40 hour week or you have completely given up sleeping. In any case, I'm enjoying the fruits of your labor as I listen to you ruminate while I'm at work.

I think Scott has given up sleeping... Although I suspect he is starting to look after himself better?
It's true that kids take up a lot of your free time. But I think the trade off is great and I know you wouldn't give it up for anything! Ever wish you had a son? I would love a daughter...
New Zealand and Japan share a lot of similarities when it comes to problems with our shaky soil. We had 2 earthquakes and a volcano eruption last week... Lots of panic about tsunami but nothing happened. There is a servive you can get on your cellphone where they will text you tsunami alerts. I am surprised that Japan doesn't do that...
Thanks for the sumo news. I usually only start following every two months when the tournament comes round. You should really check out http://sumoforum.net , it is a wealth of information!
Scott, we really need to do something for the Kyushu Basho, drop me a line if you are keen to organise something. I would love to.

Great episode Scott. :) If you find yourself with any questions dealing with Microsoft Access, I'm available for answers. I've been using it in my office for the past 9 years, and may be able to give some points of interest etc.

Has society really changed?
