The intention of the vlog entry was to show some cherry blossoms from Chiyoda-ku's Kitanomaru Park. Unfortunately, I arrived about a week too soon. Still there were some interesting things to see.

My hope is to return there again next week to see and capture the full splendor of the season. I'm looking for someone to share a ride in the moat in a row-boat 0 willing to split cost, camera and rowing duties. Please leave a comment or send an email if interested.

Also feel free to leave audio or video comments on the timeline for this episode at CrowdAbout.us (as soon as blip does the Flash conversion).

Need another diversion?

I'd finally heard enough people talking about Twitter that I could no longer resist. I signed up for the service yesterday and am still trying to make sense of it.

The explanation I've come across that makes the most sense is that it is like a mini-blog in which users post current bits of information - answering the question, "What are you doing now?" It becomes interesting when you add other users as friends and you get updated everytime they post their answer to that question.

On the surface it seems like an incredible waste of time and energy. Perhaps it is. But as Dave Winer says,

"What matters about Twitter, btw, is that people are using it."

Here's a prediction: Twitter will soon either become yesterday's news or it will become too big to ignore any longer. You might want to check it out before either eventuality comes to pass.

For those who care, feel free to add yourself to my twitter list.

Tokyo Calling Episode 079

This 49 minute urban-adventurer-cast demonstrates why I am not an art critic. The main topic covered while ironing three shirts was a new-found sense of joy in discovering new places in Tokyo. Also thrown in were an update on Ghost Action, an invitation to join the discussion about this podcast at Crowd About, and a request for vlogging mission requests (similar to the Moresukine project).

This short vlog entry was taken while I was walking through Chiyoda-ku last week. As I approached the National Archives building sirens began to wail and emergency vehicles sped to the scene. It turns out it was all just a drill.

Crowd About

I've just joined on to a service called Crowd About. It allows you to leave audio, video or text comments to recent episodes. The idea behind the service is to allow for podcasters and vloggers to participate in a more interactive exchange with interested audience members.

What I like about it is that your comments are marked to a specific point in the audio or video playback of the episode. If you want to respond to a specific point raised in an entry, Crowd About is the ideal way to do so. For now, I've set it up track the vlog feed and will be adding audio podcasts manually. I'm in the process of linking to Google Maps of each of the locations where the vlog entries have been shot.

To leave messages all you have to do is set up a free (free for now) account. Give it a try.

I encountered this globe in an amazing little park that sits atop an old water treatment facilty in Bunkyo-ku's Hongo district. Before finding the park, I had just spent an hour or so checking out the Lab Motion exhibition at Tokyo Wonder Site.

The free exhibition continues until March 21st. If you have the chance, I encourage you to check it out. You might be amused.

Tokyo Calling Episode 078

Hina Matsuri is the main topic in this 36 minute seems-like-serendipity-cast. The monolog from pond-side in a park also includes a look forward for the podcast and vlog, and concludes with some listener email. Musical interludes include Mrs. Tokyo Calling and the Tokyo Calling Singers for the Hina Matsuri Song (at the 10'57" mark) and daughter number two with her version of Twinkle Twinkle (at the 25'42" mark) from more than a year ago.
